Practice management system (PMS)
Short answer
A practice management system, or PMS, is the software that runs a practice’s administrative and financial work. It handles scheduling, patient demographics, charge entry, claim submission, payment posting, and patient statements. Many PMS products are bundled with an electronic health record, and payment details from EOBs and ERAs are ultimately posted there.
How does a PMS connect to payers?
Most practice management systems send claims and receive ERAs through a clearinghouse. Some also support direct payer connections or manual imports of 835 files.
Why does PMS integration matter for EOB posting?
Posted data is only useful if it lands in the PMS on the correct claim lines. Integration methods vary by system and can include 835 imports, APIs, or structured file uploads.
